Very few showrooms in the UK can offer this

A Yamaha silent piano is an acoustic piano where there is an option to silence the strings by means of an interposing hammer bar. A silent piano is designed for private silent practice. In the silent mode, sensors pick up the piano key movement. Some cheap retrofit systems use mechanical sensors which affect the touch and produce a clicking sound, whereas newer Yamaha and Kawai models use optical sensors which do not affect the feel or sound of the piano. The key movement is then converted to a midi signal and can link to a sound module, allowing the person to use headphones. The pianos also have full midi capability and can be linked to a computer for use with notation software etc. (except the Yamaha b series which are listen only). In all silent systems, engaging the silent function causes a bar to move into place such that it intercepts the shank and stops the hammer from hitting the piano string.

Available on Yamaha P Series, U Series, YUS Series and the SU7, as well as many pianos in the Kemble range you can play with the great sound sampling from the CFIIIS concert grand. Recording and playback functions are also available.
When the Silencing function has been activated-
Recording and playback functions are conveniently built in .
A USB port allows you to import MIDI data on portable USB memory devices.

The KAWAI Anytime system is more sophisticated and takes its dynamic information from the actual hammer speed rather than a ‘best guess’ of hammer speed from the key. There are also more voices and tuning temperamanets and settings that can be accessed on the Kawai system.
Kawai system available on K15, K2, K3 and K5 uprights and GM10, GE30 and RX2 Grands.
